OpenAI於9月10日宣布 Agents API 進入 public beta，將支援 Codex 及 ChatGPT for Work 的 agent harness 與基礎設施，以託管 API 形式開放予開發者。官方稱，開發者可在一次 API 呼叫中指定任務、模型、工具和執行環境，建立可用於生產工作流程的雲端 agents。
今次 API 的重點包括長時間 session、context compaction、tool search、programmatic tool calling、MCP / custom functions / built-in web search 支援，以及可把工作拆分予 subagents 平行處理的 multi-agent 功能。開發者可選擇 OpenAI-hosted sandbox、自行託管基礎設施，或使用 Blaxel、Cloudflare、Daytona、DigitalOcean、E2B、Modal、Oracle、Runloop、Vercel 等 sandbox partners。
OpenAI 表示，Agents API 由 open-source Codex harness 驅動，服務本身沒有額外平台費，使用者按所用 tokens 及 tools 付費。MarkTechPost亦報道，這次推出把沙盒、subagents、context compaction 和 agent orchestration 整合到單一 API。對工程團隊而言，變更代表自建 agent orchestration、工具治理、執行環境及成本監控的部分工作，可轉移至平台層處理；但仍需審視資料邊界、工具權限、執行環境隔離及 audit logging。
